DEL SOL CHURCH MILITARY MINISTRY

The Del Sol Church military ministry is a three fold ministry of building relationships, assisting in helping those who have emotional and spiritual needs; and finally we want to help with the physical needs of the deployed Soldiers and their family members.

The first major focus is to create relationships with members of the military stationed at Fort Bliss and William Beaumont Army Medical Center.  These relationships are sought because of the biblical directive of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who directed his disciples to "care for your brethren who are in need or who are seeking spiritual, emotional and physical comfort."  To tell others of his love and to demonstrate it by, "loving GOD, loving people, and serving our community".

Our second focus is to meet the emotional needs of our local military community just as we meet the needs of our local church members.  In coordination with the Military Chaplains Office on Fort Bliss, the ministry reaches out to assist the newly transplanted military members and their family members through the "Host Family Program".  The ministry goal is not to recruit members for Del Sol Church, but rather it is an extension of what Jesus has taught us as Christ Followers; we seek to be Good Samaritans.  We seek to encourage and support the military soldiers and their family members while they are living in our community.  We want to assist the Soldiers and their family members in getting to know our city, and its culture.  It is a way to show the military community and the local civilian community our similarities and differences as well as encourage the military community to connect to local families and interact with them while they are separated from "home towns and families".  Our desire is to allow GOD to show his love through us as we show our love for him and them.

The third focus is to assist Soldiers' family members while the Soldiers are deployed for long periods of time by sponsoring a deployed unit or Soldier.  Our goal is to provide support and assistance to the families just as neighbors would if they were still livening at home with relatives and friends.  To let the Soldiers know that we appreciate what they do for us and our country.

DEL SOL MILITARY MINISTRY IN NEED OF HOST FAMILIES FOR INCOMING FORT BLISS SOLDIERS

Thank You Del Sol Church Family for your support of the Military  Host Family Program, however we still need your help!!!  Please  contact one of the Del Sol Military Ministry Contacts below if you  are willing to be a Host Family and sponsor a soldier/or family.

Fort Bliss is experiencing a tremendous increase of soldiers arriving at the installation due to the closure of many U. S. military installations.  The Military Ministry is receiving numerous requests for Host Families to support soldiers coming to Fort Bliss from the Fort Bliss Chaplain's office.

Currently Del Sol Military Ministry has approximately fifty Soldiers assigned to Del Sol Church from the Fort Bliss Host Family Program.  We do not want to return this list of soldiers back to the Host Family Program.

What are the requirements of the Host?

When you call the Del Sol Military Ministry volunteers, you will be given a soldier's name and phone number; please contact him/her within 24 hours.  If you cannot make contact with the soldier within 5 days please let the Del Sol Military Ministry contacts know that you are experiencing trouble reaching the soldier.

Once you reach the Soldier inform him/her that you have agreed to be a Host sponsor.  Ask if he/she is still interested in having a Host who will help with getting him/her acquainted with the city and surrounding areas.

This is an outreach ministry, invite the soldier and/or the soldier's family to meet with you at a time convenient for all of you.  Lunch or dinner is appropriate.

When you meet, get to know each other and discuss some of the common areas of interests you have.  Determine if the soldier is looking for a long term commitment from the Host Family or just for someone to familiarize him/her with the city and its amenities.  Your Host Family efforts give you an opportunity to provide outreach, fosters community relations, and gives you an opportunity to minister to the soldier if he/she is open to it.
